South Devon College Marine Academy offers a range of Seafish-approved short courses for skippers and crew.
Who are Seafish?
Seafish is a public body supporting the UK seafood sector to thrive, working with South Devon College as an approved provider to offer training courses for people working in the fishing industry, to ensure a skilled and safe workforce.
Seafish works with the seafood industry right across the UK, from fishing vessels and their crew, seafood processing businesses, and aquaculture producers, to restaurants and fishmongers.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is responsible for enforcing regulations around safety on fishing vessels, and certain safety training courses are mandatory for workers in the industry and must be completed before going to sea.
Seafish is responsible for the administration of these courses on behalf of the MCA, working in partnership with South Devon College’s Marine Academy to provide this essential training.
It’s also important for anyone working on a fishing vessel to complete other voluntary courses to keep their skills and knowledge up to date.
From Basic Sea Survival and Fire Fighting to Under 16.5m Skippers’ Certificates in Stability for Experienced Fishers and Engine Room and Bridge Watch Keeping, there will be a Seafish certified course to ensure you and your commercial fishing crew stay safe at sea and thrive as a workforce.
