Leadership and Staff

Laurence Frewin in Hi Tech & Digital Centre
Laurence Frewin
Principal and CEO at South Devon College

I would like to introduce you to South Devon High School. I am delighted that South Devon College offers such exciting and diverse curriculum routes for young people in Torbay and South Devon at age 14. The High School combines the best of practical and vocational training with more traditional academic qualifications. Feedback from our pupils and parents about the support we provide and the excellent progress our pupils make, is exceptional, building further on the College’s track record for student success and satisfaction.

Since it started, many pupils and parents at South Devon High School have said that the traditional school curriculum does not always meet their needs. Offering core GCSEs alongside vocational pathways, leading to Further Education, Higher Education and Apprenticeship opportunities and by working with employers and specialists, South Devon High School offers an innovative, high quality choice for young people with clear routes for progression to the jobs of the future.

Matt Burrows
Head of South Devon High School

I am very proud to be leading the school as we provide new and exciting opportunities for 14 and 15 year olds in Torbay and South Devon. Our vision is to ensure that every pupil can reach their full potential at Key Stage 4, by providing the very best support we can, in an employment-focused learning environment.

We are determined to stretch and challenge pupils through excellent teaching, and using state of the art resources. Our ambition is that every pupil succeeds in their GCSE examinations, and they are well prepared for their next steps into further study or employment. I look forward to meeting you all – please feel free to contact me with any queries or for further information about our courses.

James McCauley
Deputy Head of High School

Building further on South Devon College’s track record for student success and student satisfaction, South Devon High School offers innovative, high quality choices for young people and progression to jobs of the future. We are extremely proud of the fantastic achievements of our pupils and their progress onto rewarding pathways for their future. Parents have been delighted with the achievements of their children, and they value the personalised care afforded by small classes and supportive teachers. I look forward to meeting you all at future South Devon High School events.
