The Learning Resource Centre is situated at the heart of South Devon College and is accessible over 2 floors. We have over 30,000 books in our collection specific to different curriculum areas and 80 bookable PCs that learners can use for their studies. Other resources such as fiction, DVDs, laptops, careers and university information are also available to loan.
Close integration with the teaching staff ensures a comprehensive and wide range of resources including books, e-books, journals and electronic resources to support learning.
Our helpful and knowledgeable staff are here to help students with finding resources and using the PCs. Specialist staff are also on hand to deliver eSafety workshops and also provide study skills support such as presentation skills, research techniques and exam preparation. A dedicated staff member is also available to support University Level learners.
An additional Research Centre is available within the University Centre with PCs, resources and staff to support research and higher level study for all University Level students to use.
Learning Zones
The Learning Zones enable easy access to over 190 PCs to support study. There are a range of different Learning Zones around the College, each easily accessible with multiple PCs in each location. There are a variety of zones to suit specific needs such as quiet zones, group working zones and bookable meeting/presentation rooms. Zones can be booked by teachers for class use, but students can also book a PC up to 2 weeks in advance so that they can plan their own study programme and guarantee access to a PC.
The Learning Zone logo can be seen around the College to indicate where the Learning Zones are located. Learning Zone bookings can be accessed on the front screen of the virtual learning environment (Moodle) to enable you to book PCs from inside and outside the College.
Online Library and Virtual Learning Environment
The PCs enable you to access the internet, Microsoft Office, Moodle and the online library.
From the online library you can access information about all aspects of the LRC, in addition to useful links and online resources to help you with your studies. Here you’ll also find details of our opening times, plus links to our library catalogue, latest news, top tips and LRC blog.
