The South Devon High School Careers programme has been developed in consultation with the South Devon High School Senior Leadership Team, Governors and Heads of Tutorial and Learner Progress having been informed by pupil and employer feedback. The programme aims to fulfil Gatsby Benchmarks and meet Careers Development Institute framework elements including Self-Development, Careers Exploration and Career Management.

Each vocational subject at South Devon High School offers a range of activities including attendance to external events, participation with community projects, visits from industry experts, and work experience opportunities and LMI in the specific sector. These activities are informed by regular sector focus group meetings with industry leaders, research and staff undertaking Continuing Professional Development.

South Devon High School Provider Access (Baker Clause)

Click here to view the policy statement. This policy sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to pupils at South Devon High School for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training.

Open Events Speak to industry experts from a broad range of sectors and education professionals for advice on career pathways, training and progression opportunities.
Parent Information Events An opportunity to find out more about SDHS and the curriculum it offers to pupils at Key Stage 4. An opportunity to meet staff from a variety of curriculum areas and understand the pathways to achieving your career goals. Helpzone are also in attendance to provide impartial careers advice to all Year 9 pupils.
One-to-One Appointments An opportunity to find out more about the School, applications process and options with the Head or Deputy Head of the High School. This will also include an offer of a Personal Guidance appointment with Helpzone to look at curriculum pathways to careers.
Taster Day An opportunity for students to have tasters of the options available and experience a day in the life of a South Devon High School student by accessing the facilities and meeting staff.

Guidance Meeting
A chance for Year 9 pupils to find out more about career opportunities and available pathways to achieving their career goals.
Personal Guidance Appointments All Year 11 pupils attend a one-to-one appointment with a member of Helpzone for impartial careers advice and support with course applications and future career paths.
What is LMI? Labour Market Information tells us what jobs are available and where. It also covers additional information such as average salaries, skill requirements and number of current or projected vacancies. It helps inform the career planning process if young people have exposure to many possible careers options including those which don’t yet exist.
