Wellbeing Support for You

We would like to introduce our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team and to outline the array of wellbeing support available to our students at South Devon College. No matter what course you are studying, your age, or the location of your studies, support is available to you. Our team are based at the Paignton campus, but do frequently visit all of our campus sites for general support and 1-1s.

University Centre South Devon has its own dedicated wellbeing support team. You can find all of the details here.

Our Mental Health Vision Statement:

South Devon College is committed to embedding, promoting and supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of our entire college community; this is a whole-college-approach and is at the heart of our culture and values. We continue to work with our students, staff, parents, carers and external stakeholders to educate, support & promote wellbeing and mental health support.  

Wellbeing Support:

Our Safeguarding & Wellbeing Team are here to support you with; your mental health and wellbeing, safeguarding matters, emergency first aid, counselling referrals, bereavement support, food bank and clothing bank, sexual health advice and contraception, free sanitary items, housing support, drug and alcohol support, domestic abuse support and anything else that you may need support with.

  • Out of hours emergency safeguarding support: Torbay Emergency Duty Service or Devon Emergency Duty Service
  • Out of hours & emergency mental health support: NHS Mental Health Contacts and MIND

Facilities Available at our Paignton Campus:

Breastfeeding Room – We have a dedicated breastfeeding room, for any students or staff to use, complete with a seating area, a cleaning/washing areas and a fridge. This room is based next to our Level 1 Reception, in room 1.029. If you would like to access the room, please contact our Wellbeing Team, to be given ID card swipe-access to the room.

Multi-Faith Prayer/Reflection Room – Our multi-faith room is based on Level 3 of our main building, in room 3.021. This is a private space which you are welcome to use, if you would like to use this space, please contact our Wellbeing Team, to be given ID card-swipe access to the room.

Free Toast for All – Here at South Devon College the health and wellbeing of our students is a top priority and we recognise that a number of students and families are facing real financial challenges at home, so we are offering free toast at College in the mornings so our students can start the day with a suitable breakfast.

The toast will be available to all students, no questions asked, between 8am and 9am each morning during term times. There will be white, brown and gluten-free bread options, along with a selection of spreads.
