South Devon College receives funding to enhance Learning Opportunities kitchen

South Devon College has already received an ‘Outstanding’ from Ofsted for its provision for learners with high needs, and we’re now improving those provisions even further, thanks to funding from registered charity Crescent Purchasing Consortium.

The funding, awarded to add value to education and learners, is being used to upgrade the SEND kitchen, making it more accessible and increasing capacity for our growing population of Learning Opportunities students.

The College has 85 Learning Opportunities students enrolled on specialised full-time courses who need additional support to help prepare for life after College or future courses with us and, in order to develop their independence, they learn a range of skills – one of which is how to work safely in a kitchen environment.

The SEND kitchen is a vibrant hub that supports both independent living skills and vocational catering skills across our SEND offer. Every student is timetabled into the kitchen as part of their programme of study, and now is the ideal time to improve the space, enhancing its functionality and accessibility to better support an inclusive and high-quality learning experience.

Thanks to the CPC funding, the work will take place over the summer holidays, so we are all ready to open our doors again in September and welcome all those students back into the new and improved kitchen!

Keep your eyes peeled for the launch of the new improved facilities!
