South Devon College launches “Find Your Edge”

Find Your Edge Logo

A new identity and a clear promise to every learner: to be known as an individual, and to leave knowing what sets them apart.

South Devon College has launched Find Your Edge, a new identity that sets out what learners, parents, employers and the community can expect from the college.

It is built on a simple idea: everyone has something that sets them apart – a talent, an interest, an ambition, a way of thinking. The college’s job is to help each learner find it, develop it and take it out into the world. That edge is what gives them confidence, and what helps them stand out in an application, an interview, at work and in life.

Find Your Edge launches on the 13th October 2026 and will appear across the college’s campuses, website, campaigns and open events.

A story the college already had

Find Your Edge was not invented in a meeting room. It grew from the college’s values – Ambition, Inclusive and Respect – and from what students say they value most: the freedom to be themselves, tutors who know them, friendships that matter and a college where they feel they belong.

Principal Laurence Frewin said:

“We didn’t need to invent a story, it was already there but just hadn’t been given a voice. Find Your Edge is bigger than a qualification. It’s a promise that every learner leaves us knowing more about who they are, what they can do and where they can go next, the 16-year-old who nearly didn’t apply, and the 40-year-old starting over.”

What students can expect

The college says finding your edge starts with being known as an individual. In practice, that means:

  • tutors who ask the right questions
  • careers advice that opens up possibilities
  • enrichment that helps learners discover something new
  • staff who notice potential and give learners the confidence to use it

It applies across everyone the college serves: a sixteen-year-old finding their feet, an apprentice building a career, an adult changing direction, or a student aiming higher than they thought they could.

Bianca Marcu, who recently completed her A Levels at South Devon College with an A and two B’s said:

“The teachers were amazing they gave us a lot of support, and the environment really allows you to thrive.”

Backed by what the college already delivers

  • Ambition: the largest post-16 provider in South Devon, results above national averages, and a £17m Hi Tech & Digital Centre.
  • Inclusive: the most inclusive college in Devon, with outstanding high needs and SEND provision.
  • Respect: an anchor institution for Torbay and South Devon, and the greenest college in the South West.

A first step towards 2030

Find Your Edge is the first step in a wider plan for the college. In January 2027, South Devon College will publish its 2030 strategy, setting out how it will grow its offer for young people and adults across the region.

Different people. Different ambitions. Different edges.
