If you're curious about why people behave the way they do, and want to understand how society functions, the Level 2 in Social Science at South Devon College is the perfect place to start. This engaging course introduces you to three key areas of social science: Psychology, Criminology, and Sociology, giving you insight into the forces that shape human behaviour, culture, and identity.
You will explore fascinating and relevant topics such as the psychology of mental health, group behaviour, theories of crime, ethics in punishment, and equality and diversity. These themes provide a solid foundation for understanding how individuals and institutions interact and how social issues impact the world around us.
As part of your study programme, you’ll also take part in personal development sessions focused on building your employability, confidence, and transferable skills. If you haven't yet achieved a GCSE in English or Maths, you’ll have the opportunity to resit these alongside your main qualification.
This course prepares you for progression to the Level 3 Social Science Diploma, and beyond. At South Devon College, you can follow a full progression pathway into higher education with degrees available at University Centre South Devon, including: BSc (Hons) Psychology and Criminology BSc (Hons) Psychology and Counselling Skills FdA Education and Childhood.
Upon successful completion, you will achieve a Level 2 Certificate in Personal and Social Development, opening doors to a wide range of careers in social work, education, the police, counselling, and more.
You will need to have achieved a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4(C) or above. You will need to have achieved GCSEs at grade 4(C) or above in either Maths or English Language
