Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) Part-time

Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) Part-time

The Access to Higher Education Diploma: Biology and Chemistry (Part-Time) is a flexible, two-year course designed for those wishing to pursue a career in the biological or chemical sciences. Studying one day a week, you will complete the first 10 units in the first year, focusing on study skills and foundational knowledge in Biology and Chemistry. In the second year, you’ll finish the remaining 10 units and receive support with your UCAS application.

This course equips you with the UCAS points needed to progress to universities across the UK. This course is ideal if you're aiming for a career in fields like Biomedical Science, Genetics, Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, or Materials Chemistry. It’s also well-suited for those pursuing competitive degrees in the Health sector, such as Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Midwifery, Pharmacy, or Dental Hygiene and Therapy.

To enrol, you should have a GCSE grade 4 in English and/or Maths. If you need to improve your grades, we offer evening classes in these subjects alongside the diploma, including a Biology evening class for those needing additional support. Be sure to check the entry requirements for your chosen university course, as some may ask for grade 5 or additional science qualifications.

Having a clear idea of the university degree you wish to pursue will help guide your studies, but it's not essential. If you’re under 24 and have not previously completed a Level 3 qualification, the course may be funded for you. Alternatively, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your fees, which you won’t need to repay if you progress to university and complete your degree.

This AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group accredited diploma has approved progression routes to Foundation Degrees at University Centre South Devon, part of South Devon College. After completing the course, you can progress to:

FdSc Animal Science

FdSc Assistant Practitioner

FdSc Nursing Associate

FdSc Hearing Aid Audiology

For more information about progression opportunities, visit www.ucsd.ac.uk or email [email protected].
