Access to Higher Education Diploma (Medical Science)

Access to Higher Education Diploma (Medical Science)

The Access to Higher Education Diploma: Medical Science Pathway is designed for those (19+) returning to education with a desire to pursue a degree and career in Medical Science or the Allied Health Professions. With a national shortage of professionals in areas such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Paramedicine, Orthoptics, Osteopathy, Podiatry, and Prosthetics, this course provides the foundation needed for a fulfilling career in these critical sectors. The Allied Health Professions also offer opportunities in specialised roles like cardiac and respiratory medicine.

This pathway covers a broader range of body systems compared to the standard Access to HE (Science) pathway, which is also available for full-time or part-time study.

To qualify for the course, you should have GCSE grade 4 in English and/or Maths. If needed, you may be able to take Functional Skills Level 2 in place of these qualifications, depending on the requirements of your chosen university.

You may be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees, which you won’t need to repay if you progress to university and complete your degree.

Key Information:

It’s recommended to have a clear idea of the university course you would like to apply for.

Be sure to check the entry requirements of your chosen Higher Education Institute.

Both Maths and English GCSE grade 4 (or equivalent) are required for all Access to HE Diplomas. Exceptions may apply if these qualifications are not necessary for your selected university course.

The Diploma is accredited by AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group.

Upon successful completion of this course, there is an approved progression route to Foundation Degrees at University Centre South Devon, part of South Devon College. Here are the programmes you can progress onto:

FdSc Assistant Practitioner

FdSc Nursing Associate

FdSc Hearing Aid Audiology

For more information on progression routes, visit www.ucsd.ac.uk or email [email protected].
