Start nowWhat Matters Most? New Perspectives from University Centre South Devon Artists
Graduating students from the FdA Contemporary Arts Practice programme at University Centre South Devon will present an exciting new multimedia exhibition, What Matters Most?, at Artizan Collective Gallery, Torquay, from Wednesday 29th April to Friday 1 May 2026, open daily from 11am–5pm.
What Matters Most? showcases the work of ‘6 Degrees South’, a collective of six emerging artists who have developed a strong collaborative practice throughout their studies. The exhibition represents an important milestone in their creative journey, marking the transition from student practitioners to early-career professionals and offering audiences insight into the perspectives shaping the next generation of contemporary artists.
The exhibition explores the central question “What matters most?”, resulting in a thoughtful and diverse body of work that reflects curiosity, introspection and an appreciation for the world around us. Through a wide range of media – including film, sculpture, fashion, painting and mixed media – the artists examine themes such as identity, mental health, solitude, environmental responsibility and the significance of personal experience.
Participating artists Eve Butler, Joanna Ward, Mason Johnstone, Samuel Bailey-Merritt, Ruby Brown and Azriel Silvester present intimate and expressive responses to these themes, creating a dynamic and engaging viewing experience. The exhibition demonstrates the breadth of skills, experimentation and conceptual thinking fostered through the Contemporary Arts Practice programme at University Centre South Devon.
Hosted as part of Artizan Collective Gallery’s student programme, What Matters Most? provides a valuable platform for emerging creative voices and strengthens links between higher education and the regional arts community. Visitors are invited not only to engage with the artists’ work, but also to reflect on their own ideas of meaning, value and significance.
