Functional Skills Mathematics
Refreshing or developing your maths skills can have a lasting, positive impact on both your career and everyday life. Confidence with numbers is essential in many jobs and can also help you manage finances, problem-solve, and access opportunities you may not have considered before.
We offer Functional Skills Mathematics at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2.
Assessment and Enrolment
Before enrolling, you’ll complete an initial assessment to identify the most suitable level for you and ensure you get the most from the course. This assessment also generates personalised learning resources to support your studies. Once the assessment is complete, we’ll offer you a day and time to attend. Please note that this may differ from the day and time selected on your application.
When applying, choose the level, day and time you feel would suit you best and we’ll contact you to arrange your assessment.
Completing Your Initial Assessment
Online: If you have access to a computer, laptop, or tablet, you can complete the assessment online. Please note, this does not work well on mobile phones.
In person: Alternatively, you can complete the assessment at our Torquay centre by arranging a suitable date and time.
Course Structure
Duration: 15 weeks
Attendance: Two hours per week
Units: Three units, each lasting five weeks
Flexible start: You can join at the beginning of any unit throughout the year
You should have a genuine interest in this subject
You must have attended an initial assessment prior to enrolling on this course
Subjects studied include:
Calculations adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
Fractions, decimals and percentages
Perimeter, area and volume
2D and 3D shapes
Ratio and scale drawings
Metric measures
Formula
Handling data – charts, tables and graphs
