If you're curious about how the universe works - from the smallest particles to the vastness of space - A Level Physics at South Devon College will challenge and inspire you. This course develops your analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, equipping you with the tools to tackle some of the biggest questions in science and technology.
You'll learn through a dynamic mix of lectures, group work, hands-on experiments, and discussions. Practical work is central to the course, helping you apply theory to real-world situations and build confidence in laboratory skills.
In your first year, you’ll build on your GCSE knowledge of mechanics and electricity, exploring how the fundamental principles of physics connect. You’ll also take your first steps into the intriguing world of quantum physics, where classical rules begin to break down.
In your second year, the course dives deeper into Newtonian mechanics, electromagnetism, thermal physics, and the structure of matter. You’ll also explore cutting-edge topics such as nuclear physics, medical imaging, astrophysics, and cosmology, learning how physics helps us understand everything from power generation to black holes.
Physics is a gateway to exciting and high-demand careers in engineering, software development, research and development, medical physics, manufacturing, and more. Employers and universities highly value the logical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and practical skills you'll gain.
