Physics
The study of Physics will develop strong problem solving skills which are valued by employers and can lead to a wide range of rewarding careers. These include; engineering, research and development, medical applications, manufacturing, software development.
You will learn through a balance of lectures, practical activities, group work and discussions. Practical sessions are used to underpin theory where possible and to build your skills throughout the course.
The course starts by building on your GCSE-level knowledge of simple mechanics and electricity. You will start to understand how concepts link together and develop your ability to apply mathematics to new situations. You will also be introduced to the Quantum world!
In the second year you will continue your studies of Newtonian mechanics, electromagnetics and thermal physics. You will then learn about nuclear physics and sub atomic particles, medical physics and finally astrophysics and cosmology.
You will need to have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4(C) or above including English or equivalent
Grade 6 in Physics, Grade 5/6 in Combined Sience and Grade 6 in Maths
