Criminology is the scientific study of crime, criminal behaviour, and the societal responses to both. This Level 3 Diploma in Criminology offers an engaging and in-depth look at the causes of crime and how society manages crime and justice. The qualification is awarded by WJEC and is equivalent to one full A Level.
In Year 1, you will explore:
• Psychological and sociological theories of crime
• How crime is perceived in society
• The influence of the media on public attitudes toward crime
• The use and interpretation of crime statistics
In Year 2, your studies will focus on:
• Investigative techniques, including forensics and policing
• The judicial process and how criminal cases progress through the courts
• Evaluating crime prevention strategies, such as custodial sentences, community orders, and other measures used to reduce reoffending
This applied general qualification is assessed through a combination of written exams and controlled assessments, providing both theoretical knowledge and practical insight.
