Bio

David Stephens has over a decade of lecturing experience after initially being employed in the education sector as an assessor for NVQs. David’s specialist subject is accountancy, and he completed the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification before progressing on to the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). David has lectured on AAT, CIMA and ACCA programmes as well as being employed as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Plymouth leading on specific Business, Accounting and Finance degree modules. A versatile lecturer, David is also very experienced in delivering leadership and management programmes and enjoys supporting students through their Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) programmes of study. David has previously been employed as a retail manager and also has experience of working as a Management Accountant in the public-sector along with accountancy practice experience. David is educated to a masters level, holds an honours degree in Business Economics and is a qualified assessor and verifier. He was appointed as HE Lead for Business, Management and Leadership in July 2022.  

David completed a dissertation in 2020 where he conducted primary research to understand how the political ideology of neoliberalism has impacted upon the roles and responsibilities of practitioners within post-16 education. The research project further sought to understand how political ideologies can directly and indirectly impact upon education and how neoliberalist policies in particular can distort the nature and scope of education. David received a distinction for his work from the University of Plymouth.
