A comprehensive introduction to chartwork navigation, meteorology, and the fundamentals of seamanship, this course is ieal for those starting to make decisions on board and for anyone considering the Day Skipper practical course.
This course provides you with the knowledge to navigate familiar waters by day. Topics covered include the basics of seamanship, coastal navigation and pilotage essentials, chart work, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations, construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat, as well as emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, life jackets, and life rafts.
A basic introduction to navigation lights is also included to prepare you for night cruising. The course runs over 40 hours and includes formal exam papers for assessment.
