Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing and Midwifery) Part-time

Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing and Midwifery) Part-time

If you're aspiring to work as a nurse or midwife and want a direct route to university, the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing and Midwifery) at South Devon College is designed to help you take that next step with confidence. This two-year, part-time course provides a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification that prepares you for degree-level study in a wide range of health-related fields.

You will study a combination of health studies, biology, and psychology, giving you the academic grounding you need to apply for health and social care degree programmes. In addition to subject knowledge, you’ll also develop essential study skills, academic writing techniques, and receive full support with your UCAS application.

This pathway is ideal if you're aiming to progress into careers such as:

  • Midwifery

  • Adult Nursing

  • Paediatric Nursing

  • Mental Health Nursing

  • Learning Disabilities Nursing

You’ll attend college one day a week over two years and will be expected to undertake independent study to complete your assignments and meet assessment deadlines. If you’re under 24 and haven’t previously achieved a Level 3 qualification, this course may be fully funded. Alternatively, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan, which is written off if you complete your university degree.

Upon successful completion, you’ll be able to progress onto a range of university-level programmes, including those listed above and the our own FdSc Nursing Associate, where we were celebrated by the Nursing Times in 2026 as being the provider of the year.
