Animal Care Certificate
Animal Care Certificate
Do you dream of turning your passion for animals into a career? This course is your first step. You’ll gain the practical skills and knowledge you need to work confidently with animals, opening the door to exciting opportunities in both further education and the animal care industry.
At South Devon College, you won’t just learn from books - you’ll work hands-on with over 150 species, right here on campus. Our dedicated animal unit includes everything from rabbits, pigs and goats to snakes, lizards and exotic insects. Each day offers the chance to build trust and form bonds with animals that will rely on you for their care and wellbeing.
You’ll explore topics such as feeding, handling, health checking, and maintaining suitable environments, all through a mix of classroom-based learning and practical sessions. This immersive approach helps you develop real-world experience that employers value. Your time with us will not only build your confidence, but help you discover where your strengths and interests lie within the animal care field.
This course also prepares you for the next stage of your journey - many students go on to study the Animal Care Level 2 Diploma and progress all the way to a top-up degree in Applied Animal Science at University Centre South Devon. So whether you're aiming for employment or advanced study, we’ll help you get there.
