Teacher Training

At South Devon College we recognise the need for great teachers who can support the local community, have a range of skills and talents, and who wish to make a positive contribution by sharing their experiences and expertise with others. If this interests you, and you feel you can make a difference, learning how to teach will give you the opportunity to enrich those around you.

Our dedicated tutors have experience working in fields of education and training including contributors for various media and educational organisations, authors of core industry text books, and professional development in new and emerging concepts. You will receive a personal learning plan enabling you to develop and grow in a supportive environment. If you are currently teaching or wish to move into this sector, our courses will help you to enhance your skills, reflect on current ideas and resourcefully investigate the professional opportunities open to you.

Our courses are designed for teaching in the Education and Training Sector, including further education, higher and adult education, sixth form, youth and community services, health and uniformed services, private and training organisations. Adult and community education offers teaching careers for graduates and non- graduates across a varied curriculum.

Funding

We have a wide variety of financial support available for adults to fund your studies, as well as a dedicated finance team to help make studying with us affordable.

If you are aged 19 or over, and studying a Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course, you could apply for an Advanced Learner Loan. The Advanced Learner Loan is a government-funded loan to help learners. It's easy to apply for, doesn't take your household income into account and doesn't involve a credit check.

We can also support you with a Learner Support Fund, which can assist with costs including childcare, college meals, exam fees and course materials. The amount of funding you can receive depends on your personal circumstances, and you could be entitled to free tuition if you're studying a Level 2 course. In the event that you do have to pay a course fee, this can be managed in an affordable way through our direct debit scheme, with monthly payments starting at just £25.

Find out more about the funding you could receive, here.

Are you an adult looking for an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are a great way of gaining important skills and qualifications with work-based training. You'll also receive a wage whilst you study, which makes apprenticeship training a fantastic option for adults preparing for employment.

You can start an apprenticeship even if you are already employed, or the College can help you secure an employer in a relevant field. They develop real work experience, and you gain both technical and academic skills with 4 days per week spent in the workplace and the remaining day in College.

Progress onto university with South Devon College
