Our Careers Guidance Team are now all Level 6 qualified Career Guidance & Development Practitioners
It’s a new year and you may be inspired to make a big change in your life. To help you make that happen, we have a great Careers Guidance Team that we are delighted to announce are now all Level 6 qualified Career Guidance and Development Practitioners. The Matrix-accredited team support everyone aged 14+ and you can book an impartial one-to-one Personal Guidance meeting where you are able to explore all of your options.
The Level 6 qualification assesses your skills and knowledge within careers guidance. Building relationships with students and professionals, being able to listen, question, and not make judgements underpin much of what we do. The understanding around labour market intelligence and guidance theories enable us to apply what we continue to learn about careers and future trends. We learn to reflect which is hugely important as a practitioner, it enables us to evaluate and continue to grow.
Our Careers service will be stronger than ever, ensuring that students receive that vital information and guidance, intervention, and support throughout their entire student journey, and beyond.
Meet the Team:
Rebecca Florence
I am the Senior Coordinator for Adult Careers, Advice & Guidance. My role is to provide impartial course and careers advice to Adults considering returning to education and training. I can also support with funding options. Learning is a lifelong journey and it’s a great feeling to help Young People and Adults develop in an ever changing world. I completed my Level 6 in Careers Guidance and Development in 2019 and its really helped support my professional development and knowledge.
Adam Furneaux
I am the Careers Senior Coordinator for Young People. My role is to help young people aged 14-19 to make decisions regarding their education, training and employment options. I have worked at the College for over 10 years and the best part of my role is meeting with students to support them explore new and exciting opportunities. I am passionate about improving the outcomes for young people while supporting them to achieve their aims and fulfil their potential. The Level 6 qualification in Career Guidance and Development has greatly improved my knowledge and practical skills, while enabling me to become an expert in my field and deliver a professional service to all of our students. By providing good careers guidance, we can support young people with new skills and knowledge which helps provide a greater understanding of themselves and the opportunities available.
Jo Calvert
I am a Careers Coordinator at the College, working with Young People aged between 14 and 16. I have been a member of the Guidance Team since May 2015 and have recently completed my Level 6 qualification in Career Guidance and Development. I enjoy working with Young People and get satisfaction from supporting them in their next steps whatever they may be.
Avis Evans
I am a Careers Coordinator. I am a member of the Information Advice and Guidance team here at South Devon College. I have just achieved my level 6 qualification to enable me to support our 14-19 learners with their career choices. I enjoy being part of a dedicated team that will ensure a learner is on track to pursue a career they are passionate about.When learners are unsure which path to take, we can provide free impartial advice on careers, assist with applying for jobs and offer help in choosing the right course at both Further & Higher Education level.
Georgina Cleasby
I am the Senior Coordinator for Schools Liaison and Transition. My role focuses on schools liaison and transitional support for young people. Typical tasks can include delivering one to one careers guidance, attending careers events, and delivering group sessions on apprenticeships in a school. This role gives me the opportunity to work with many external organisations and curriculum teams within South Devon College.
Eamon Wykes
I am the Employability Guidance Officer. It’s my job to help students to max out their employability skills. From searching and applying for part time jobs to getting through interviews, our service supports all comers. We also liaise with local employers to help students interact as often as possible. I look forward to meeting individual students or popping in to tutorials.
