South Devon College is thrilled to hear that current Level 3 Sports and Coaching student Luke Tooley (16 from Brixham), recently featured in the Yelverton GC Pro-AM Devon County Tournament – an official tour stop of The Professional Golfers Association (PGA).
Luke claimed 3rd place out of 50 of the South West’s very best golfers, including several experienced professionals.
Also the current Devon Golf Team Captain for the Under 16s, Luke gained invitation to the exclusive tournament after winning the club match at his nearby home club, Churston Golf Club. The Pro-AM competition was split into a partnered round with a professional before the individual rounds. For most 16-year-olds the prospect of competing against the very best might prove daunting, yet Luke’s growing confidence reflected in his performance out on the greens.
Luke said, “The experience was incredible. I’ll remember my first Pro-AM competition for years to come, and it was great to represent the College in my own way. This tops a really great year for local golf – as part of the Under 16s Devon team we’ve won the 4 County Tournament competition and even the 6 County as well, beating teams from Wiltshire, Cornwall and Dorset”.
Luke will be representing England at the Nationals next year, another chapter for what’s a very promising and successful career in Golf. Luke is one of the many Sport and Coaching students at South Devon College who through their studies are able to pursue their sporting passions whilst developing key academic and personality skills at the same time.
