Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Level 3
Senior Healthcare Support Workers work alongside registered healthcare professionals to deliver high quality and compassionate health and care services. A Senior Healthcare Support Worker will provide clinical, therapeutic, or diagnostic care under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered healthcare professional.
This is an occupational qualification for those who work in Senior Healthcare Support Worker roles in England or are working towards attaining this role. For this standard, one of the following occupational options will be completed:
• Adult Nursing
• Maternity Support
• Theatre Support
• Mental Health Support
• Children and Young People Support
• Allied Health Profession – Therapy Support
You will be required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and will be provided with six hours off-the-job training per week by your employer to support your training and development needs.
A qualified Trainer Facilitator/ Assessor will support this development via one-to-one tutorials and observations in practice, as prearranged with you and your employer. You will undertake an End Point Assessment process with an independent end point assessor who will grade your apprenticeship achievement as Pass or Distinction.
On successful completion of this course, you could progress onto Higher Education, including a foundation degree at University Centre South Devon or higher-level study in other health or social care areas.
Course Details
- You must have a GCSE Grade 4(C) in English
- You must have a GCSE Grade 4(C) in Maths
- You must also have a Care Certificate or obtain this as part of your apprenticeship programme.

Service improvement within the health sector
Maintaining quality standards in the health
Contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions
Communicate with individuals about promoting their health and wellbeing
Plus a range of optional units specific to your specialist area
Senior Healthcare Support Workers work in a range of settings for example in a hospital, as part of a community team, in a day-case unit, birthing centre, individual’s homes, operating theatres, nursing or care homes, hospices and in general practice.
