Sport is a technical discipline, and not more so than when South Devon College’s Technology department comes together to organise Sports Fest!
Over 70 students from the department, which includes construction, engineering, digital and automotive curriculum areas, joined forces to do battle both on the football pitch and at the table tennis table, in a flurry of crosses and chops!
In a quest to be the best, team spirit was alive and well when students gathered to take part and support their peers in the action-packed day showcasing skills, determination and sportsmanship.
The Sports Fest reinforced the College’s commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle alongside academic success. For those students who normally spend their working days in labs and workshops demonstrating their technical abilities, it gave them the opportunity to show off different skills within some healthy competition!

The Level 1 multi-trade student team – James Tierney, Lewis Ennis, Tom Day, Brock Mckinley Booton, Levi Grigg, Jackson Blood and Ahmad Sadiq – emerged victorious in the football derby, winning 2-0, resulting in them being undefeated throughout the tournament.
Their prizes were a Lovell sports voucher and an Amazon voucher gifted by the wonderful sponsors Lovell and Brewers respectively.

Student Charlie Raggett, studying Level 1 Introduction to Construction and Building Services, was awarded Most Valued Player in the football and won an Amazon voucher: “I enjoyed the football and appreciated the voucher.”
Hugh Avery, who is also studying Level 1 Introduction to Construction and Building Services, was the top goal scorer on the day: “I really enjoyed the day and thought the football was fun! It gave us a good break from our assessments.”
There were also competitive smashes being served up at the table tennis table – Luke Le Huray, studying Level 1 Plumbing and Electrical, won the final round, with a score of 21 – 16. He received a table tennis bat plus an Amazon voucher.

“A huge thank you goes to our generous event sponsors Lovell and Brewers for donating prizes that made the day even more special for our winning teams and standout players,“ said Jack Carlisle, Trainer Facilitator Wood Trades – Construction at South Devon College, who organised the event.
“Their support helped make the Sports Fest a memorable experience for everyone involved.”
Due to the resounding success of the event, students have been asking if they can do it again next year – and the answer is ‘yes, get training for Sports Fest 2026!.
