The Collective Pride Awards are designed to recognise unsung heroes in the professional hair, beauty and barbering arena, acknowledge teams or individuals who have helped and supported people struggling with mental health or emotional wellbeing. Collective Pride heroes are those who not only deliver exceptional hair and beauty services day in, day out – but go the extra mile to help others in a time of need, genuinely making a difference to someone’s life.
This award comes just over a year after South Devon College becoming the first Lions Barber Academy.
The partnership between the college and The Lions Barber Collective aims to incorporate suicide prevention training into barbering qualifications, with a continued goal of making the suicide prevention training certificated qualifications that are awarded in addition to the barbering and hairdressing qualifications.
The charity was founded by the Torquay-based and internationally recognised barber, Tom Chapman. After losing a friend to suicide, Tom, a former South Devon College student, set out to do something to help prevent others from taking their own lives.
