WaterMota Ltd pushed the boat out providing support for South Devon College Marine Academy when they donated equipment for students to work and develop their skills with.
After officially opening in April 2022, South Devon College Marine Academy has grown from strength to strength and continued to build strong connections across the industry.
WaterMota Ltd is one of these connections, who employs an apprentice that studies at South Devon College.
The donation included a Doosan AD136 auxiliary engine (Inline 6 Cylinder, 8 Litre), and a D-I Industrial DMT100IV marine gearbox.
The Doosan AD136 is a very popular engine most suited to powering marine hydraulic powerpacks and generators. WaterMota Ltd have sold hundreds of these over the years into the commercial fishing and workboat industries as they are a very reliable mechanical engine.
Whilst the engine donated to the college was at the end of its working life, a new one would currently be circa £15,000. The gearbox however was brand new but old stock and has a current value circa £5,000.
Whilst Alison Merrick, Managing Director, and David Merrick, Marketing Director at WaterMota Ltd, were at the Marine Academy making the high value donation, they took the opportunity to explore the facilities at the Academy in greater depth with Adrian Bevin, Head of Curriculum for Technology at South Devon College.
David said: “We were extremely impressed with the college facilities available to the students, and the vast array of courses tailored towards the local commercial marine industry should definitely give a boost to the availability of suitable job candidates in the future.”
Adrian said: “We are very grateful to work with WaterMota and other businesses and employers that understand the need to support our students with fantastic facilities and opportunities. It enables us to provide exceptional preparation for the world of work in the marine industry.”
