  • ‘Design Code’ created by citizens for a new neighbourhood

Home » News » All News » ‘Design Code’ created by citizens for a new neighbourhood

15th November 2022

Join the Citizens’ Panel to create a ‘Design Code’.

Do you live in Newton Abbot and want to help shape the future of a new neighbourhood whilst earning some extra money?

The Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton Garden Community programme are looking for local residents to help create a ‘Design Code’, which will enhance the quality, sustainability and appearance of a new neighbourhood to the west of Newton Abbot.

To do this they are recruiting a Citizens’ Panel to work with them and their partners to share ideas and views in workshops over the coming months, helping to create attractive places to live, work and visit.

The Citizens’ Panel will meet up to 6 times between November 2022 and February 2023. These workshops will take place in Newton Abbot on a Thursday or Friday from 10am – 12pm. Panel members will be expected to attend all 6 sessions and will be paid £40 for each session through the funding received from Government.

They are looking for people who:

  • Live in or around the area of Newton Abbot
  • Are passionate about Newton Abbot and are excited by the opportunity to shape the design of this new development
  • Have ideas about what sorts of places we should be building to meet the needs of people in the 21st Century
  • Are interested in the environment and climate change
  • Represent the diversity of Teignbridge’s community

No experience is necessary. Over 16s only.

If you would like to be on the Citizens’ Panel, please email [email protected] by Wednesday 9 November.

To ensure the Citizens’ Panel reflects the diversity of people living in our community, they will ask you to fill in a survey which asks questions about your background and your views on Newton Abbot. Please note, there are limited spaces on the Citizens’ Panel and filling in the survey does not guarantee your place.

The Design Code project is part of the Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton Garden Community programme which aims to revitalise communities in the Heart of Teignbridge, creating a healthier, happier and greener future.
