  • South Devon College secures HTQ accreditation for sustainable construction degree

Home » News » All News » South Devon College secures HTQ accreditation for sustainable construction degree

4th August 2022

South Devon College has grown its offering of Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) accredited degrees by receiving another approval by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

The Paignton college went through a rigorous 6-month process to gain the accreditation turning FdSc/HNC Sustainable Construction and the Built Environment into an HTQ.

Steve Caunter, Assistant Principal at South Devon College said: “This quality mark demonstrates that these Foundation Degrees are of high quality, and that employers and learners can have confidence in them, confidence that they provide the skills that are needed for success.

“The national approvals process took over 6 months to complete, they included gathering a range of supporting evidence from employers and completing a comprehensive mapping activity to each of the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the occupational standards that enable the learner to progress.”

This builds on the college’s suite of HTQs, having also received accreditation for FdSc/HNC Computing, FdSc Assistant Practitioner, FdSc Nursing Associate, and FdSc Hearing Aid Audiology earlier this year.

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education is an employer-led organisation sponsored by The Department for Education. Its vision is for a world-leading apprenticeships and technical education system that equips people from all backgrounds for skilled occupations.

This is the second national accreditation for the South Devon College Sustainable Construction programme, already receiving full accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

The two-year course based at the University Centre South Devon (UCSD), part of South Devon College, has been designed to provide you with the essential skills for working in the multi-disciplined construction sector. There is a strong focus on both sustainability and renewable energies because understanding them is more important than ever before.

You can find out more about Higher Technical Qualifications and explore the courses in more detail on the University Centre South Devon website.
