Peter Chalk, CEO of PME Group, said: “Having once been a marine engineering apprentice myself I fully support the apprenticeship scheme and can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience. Being able to learn both at college and get hands on experience gave me the tools to really kick start my career. PME group continues the tradition, and I am proud that we currently have two apprentices at our Plymouth Head Office; One studying to NVQ3 and one to NVQ6 level. They are both on day release at South Devon College.
“We are delighted to have donated a ZF gearbox for students to work on. We look forward to working with SDC to produce our engineers of the future.”
Paul Singer, Business and Qualification Development Coordinator at South Devon College said: “The use of these gearboxes in industry is increasing every day and South Devon College Marine Academy will really benefit from being able to provide training, from maintenance and servicing through to in-service operations with this equipment. Our new workshops and classrooms are just metres from the River Dart, making them the ideal location from which to deliver this training.”
