Devon college become national champions in English Colleges FA league
South Devon College’s Pro:Direct Academy 1st squad have done it. They’ve become the 2021/22 men’s English Colleges FA premier cup champions for the first time.
It was an intense match at Doncaster Rovers’ stadium between the college and Bishop Burton Sport on the evening of Wednesday 27th April, but the students of South Devon came out on top with a score of 2-1.
Reflecting not just on the magnitude of the achievement but also on the journey that the College have been on with the Pro:Direct Academy, Daniel Gaze, curriculum head for sport, said: “Things like this don’t happen overnight or by chance. It’s about settings standards and being consistent, along with having the right people on your staff team.
“Five years ago we started this journey and it hasn’t all been smooth. Thanks everyone for supporting the Academy and the College; all the staff, the players, the parents- we couldn’t do it without you. But this isn’t the end, it’s the beginning. Unbelievably proud of how far we’ve come over the past few years.”
Chris Todd, coach for the Pro:Direct Academy, echoed this saying: “In any industry you are only as good as the people you have around you, and I’m so proud of my players and staff.”
The memories created that night will live with players, staff and supporters forever. And the impact this will have on future generations coming through the Pro:Direct Academy at South Devon College will be inspiring.
