Lynn Stephens recognised as Inspirational Leader at Devon Women in Business Awards
The Devon Women in Business Awards 2021 took place on 4th March 2022 where the region’s greatest businesswomen and female leaders came together to celebrate the achievements and success of each other.
Amongst the winners is South Devon College’s own Lynn Stephens, who is senior head of curriculum currently overseeing a skills development project in the hospitality and catering sector in response to rebuilding after Covid-19. She took the crown as ‘Inspirational Leader’ at the awards after numerous nominations.
She is well known to local businesses for her work in developing opportunities and training across the Sport, Leisure and Tourism Industry. In 2019 Lynn led her team to victory at the National Apprenticeship awards, for outstanding contribution to the development of apprenticeships. She had also presented on the impact of apprenticeship standards to MPs at Westminster. For the last 2 years Lynn had been Chair of the Destination Management Plan group which brings together key stakeholders to drive opportunities for the English Riviera.
Devon Women in Business is a networking group which aims to support women in business to grow their contacts and opportunities. Their recent awards evening was hosted by Louise Jenner, also known as the Dream Job Coach. She explained “according to her peers, Lynn is hands down one of the most passionate people you will ever meet when it comes to advancing training and opportunities in the sport, leisure and hospitality industries. She gives up a significant amount of time to the community, chairing the English Riviera Destination Management group, doing consultancy work for YMCA fitness awards, as well as finding time to lead two fitness classes a week for her colleagues!
“Lynn has spent years advocating equality in the workplace and promoting equal opportunities and supporting people to achieve their goals and future career aspirations. All this whilst working as a Curriculum Head at South Devon College. Lynn truly is an inspiring leader to so many people, which is why we are delighted that she has won the Devon Women In Business Award for Inspirational Leader.”
Lynn said that she is delighted to receive this recognition for her work, and particularly as it highlights Women in Business. She also explained that “the training and development opportunities I have personally undertaken at South Devon College and University Centre South Devon, have really helped my career path. I would highly recommend lifelong learning to anyone who wants to progress and open new doors for themselves!”
