18th August 2020
Dear Students, Parents / Carers
I am certain that you will have been carefully following the headlines in the news about A level, AS level and GCSE results and will have seen or heard the statements issued by Ofqual and the Secretary of State for Education in the late afternoon on Monday 17th August 2020. I have included links below to both statements:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/gcse-and-a-level-students-to-receive-centre-assessment-grades
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/statement-from-roger-taylor-chair-ofqual
Whilst most of our students were delighted with their results there were naturally some disappointments and this has been a difficult and uncertain time for many students receiving or waiting for exam results across the country. With the announcement only made late yesterday, we are awaiting detailed information from the Government, Ofqual and Awarding Organisations. I want to reassure you all that we will be monitoring guidance as it is issued from this morning.
A / AS Level Results
Once we have received the detailed guidance from Ofqual and the Awarding Organisations we will formally issue students with their Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) as soon as we are able to. However, if you would like to know your CAG ahead of the official issue we can share this with you and please contact James McCauley, Head of A Level Academy on [email protected]
GCSE Results
For students awaiting their GCSE grades on Thursday 20th August 2020, whilst we have still yet to receive the information we need from the Awarding Organisations, we are expecting to issue students with their Centre Assessed Grades.
It is important to note that for all these exams the Government and Ofqual have confirmed that if students’ calculated grades were higher than the Centre Assessed Grade, their calculated grade will stand.
Finally, please check our website and social media regularly for further information and updates as they become available.
Kind regards
Laurence Frewin, Principal & CEO of South Devon College
