Once upon a time, apprenticeships were not a very popular option. Now though, it is very much the opposite with numbers of those on apprenticeships growing by hundreds year after year. With National Apprenticeships Week 2020 coming up, there’s no better time to talk about them this great way of studying and working.
Businesses and employers enjoy being able to take on raw talent and develop their skills to be suitable for the workplace. This makes for an incredibly rewarding experience for those studying as they’re able to be trained through their qualification and their employer with real-life experience. Some employers though, are so impressed with their apprentices from South Devon College, they go the extra mile to show their appreciation for what their apprentices do for their businesses.
Constructing Futures Devon Apprentice, Jack Vaughan, was presented with a selection of top quality decorating tools as a thank you for all his hard work on the properties he’s helping to bring back to life. With ambitions to start his own decorating business in the future, this kit and the on site training he’s receiving will be a fantastic start!
Constructing Futures Devon Ltd is a trading arm of Devon Communities Together. It was established to facilitate real life construction experience for local young people and provide new homes in Devon. The apprentices work on the construction and renovation of the properties under the project management of college staff, as an off campus ‘real site’ work experience opportunity. Each property requires a variety of trades to undertake a range of specialist activities, which will maximise learning opportunities and enhance the College’s full time learners’ programme of learning.
South Devon College, along with all of the employers they work with, will be celebrating the hard work and achievements of their apprentices at the Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony on Thursday 6th February 2020. It is an event that is awaited with great anticipation each year, with this year’s ceremony looking to be the biggest one yet. Almost 150 students, employers, and staff were nominated and will be competing for 18 different awards in addition to the prestigious Apprentice of the Year Award. There will be over 220 guests, including the local MP and members of local town and county councils.
