Sherwoods have invested in the Electrical Training Rig for our Apprentices and full time student provision here at the South West Energy Centre (SWEC), and will continue to invest and replace components as they wear out over the years.
The investment provides a specially equipped booth containing typical electrical installation wiring systems and is used for practical assessment where you must undertake a series of tasks and identify and resolve the faults. For our delivery team this provides a reliable and trusted assessment of safe and high quality standards expected by the industry.
Kevin Wiltshire, Contracts Director at Sherwoods, said:
“When we were approached by the team at South Devon College to see if we were able to support them with some sponsorship it seemed to be absolutely the right thing to do. As, in the early days, Sherwoods was built on an electrical foundation we thought that would be a very good area to support. I began my career as an apprentice with Sherwoods and take great pleasure seeing the personal growth of our apprentices. It was our great pleasure that (with the support of one of our suppliers, Carl Pearson at Denmans in Newton Abbot) we were able to provide the materials and ongoing support for the training bay that now bears our name. We wish good luck to all the students who will be able to use this training area.”
Sherwoods are a South Devon Business Partner, employing 7 apprentices from South Devon College. The company has grown steadily, expanding from its beginnings as a local electrical services provider into its present role as a fully-fledged building services management organisation.
Ian Smith, Training and Development Manager at Sherwoods, has been a fantastic advocate helping to develop relationships and has a background in further education including a number of projects when he worked here at the College. Sherwoods are delighted to be able to support this project working with the College. Sherwoods would like to extend their thanks to Carl at Denmans, Newton Abbot, for his support and assistance in supplying the components for the bay at South Devon College.
Ian said:
“We work very closely with the team here at SDC and wish every apprentice who has the good fortune to attend South Devon College every success and hope that our small contribution helps them achieve their goals.”
South Devon College are grateful for the partnership and relationship that they have with Sherwoods and how, together, they are enhancing the provision of construction trade qualifications and better preparing the next generation workforce.
