  • Duke of Edinburgh Award sees 42 students go on expeditions

Home » News » All News » Duke of Edinburgh Award sees 42 students go on expeditions

10th July 2019

This summer has proven to be a busy season for South Devon College’s Duke of Edinburgh Award participants, with 42 students successfully taking part in qualifying expeditions from across college. Among this season’s highlights were:

  • Learning Opportunities learners explored the coast path in North and South Devon, and looked at leisure use and accessibility issues on their routes.
  • C2C learners walked the length of the Templar Way from Haytor to Shaldon and challenged themselves to play a different sport every hour along the way.
  • Two Public Services groups tackled some tough routes and wild camped on Dartmoor, making a series of ‘how-to’ videos to guide future participants along the way.
  • Two cross-college groups also explored Dartmoor, documenting archaeological sites and assessing ways for future groups to motivate themselves.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Co-ordinator Rich Blagden said “All of our groups impressed their leaders and assessors with their teamwork and resilient characteristics, and all the teams ultimately achieved their goals. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and they deserve a huge amount of credit for the time and effort they have put in to their expeditions. It has been incredible to watch our learners progress through the award scheme and it has had a profound impact on their development. Undertaking a Duke of Edinburgh Award is a significant challenge and we hope their efforts will inspire even more of our students to take part.”
