5th July 2019
Students studying their Level 2 certificate in Hair and Media Make Up supported the performing arts group TOADS in their performances of The Addams Family at the Princess Theatre from 26th – 29th June and all the dress rehearsals prior to this.
The students were very excited and nervous about the amazing opportunity but they worked very well under the pressure, producing some exceptional results. The team worked in a very fast paced environment backstage with a large cast of 38 people. Each student had three different looks to complete within one and a half hours. It was manic, hot and hard work, but the students enjoyed the challenge and getting this real work experience from a professional show has invaluably supported their studies.
As a result of the students’ performance, TOADS have agreed to have these College make-up students work with them again for their performance of Shrek: The Musical next year. You can buy tickets for the show now.
Shelly Lee, Programme Coordinator for Beauty Therapy, Make Up and Nail Technologies, also became the first person outside of the TOADS company to be awarded a “Golden Toad” for her commitment to the show.
Shelly said “It is the first time we have worked with TOADS and after this experience, I am glad it isn’t the last. They’re an amazing company that treated myself and my students so well and made us feel like we were really part of their team. It was a massive honour and the students were exceptional too, working to a professional standard.”
A huge congratulations is deserved to the students for executing the task with professionalism and to Shelly Lee for providing guidance and making the whole experience possible.
