2nd July 2019
South Devon College, in partnership with ACTAN, hosted two of the Worldskills UK Health and Social Care qualifying heats on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th June at our Centre for Health and Care Professions in Torquay.
Competitors from across the UK, as far afield as Northern Ireland, travelled to South Devon College to demonstrate their skills in Health and Social Care. Competitors were expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control through a variety of practical competition scenarios, such as supporting an individual who has had a stroke.
Two South Devon College students, Emily Summers and Harriet Powell, from the level 3 Health and Social Care course will also be competing in the Worldskills UK Health and Social Care qualifying heats on 21st June at South and City College Birmingham.
Emily has completed over 300 hours work placement at a specialist school for children with additional needs, and Harriet is a part time care assistant at a local residential care home for the elderly, alongside studying at South Devon College.
They will find out later in the summer if they have scored highly enough to be in the top eight across the UK who will then be selected to compete at the Worldskills UK Final at the NEC from 21st – 23rd November 2019.
Wishing them the best of luck as they wait to find out the results!
