What we do
This course has been designed for those who have a background and experience in coaching and leadership, who aspire to develop an advanced skillset and work in the sports or outdoor (land and water-based) industries. There is a particular emphasis on sport, outdoor adventure and yachting, with a choice of two specialist pathways.
Your core modules will develop both theoretical and applied skills in sports and outdoor coaching, where you will analyse the coaching process and utilise advanced techniques on a range of athletes, with varying degrees of proficiency and expectation.
What we are planning to do
Students have had the opportunity to access additional qualifications in Level 2 gym instruction, Level 3 sports massage, UK Coaching courses (Coaching the Person in front of you and How to Teach the fundamentals of movement) alongside their core degree programme giving them opportunities to access additional employment opportunities. Students have also had visits from Nutrition companies to talk about the benefits of healthy eating products to tie in with their module. In addition, for 2019 we have just announced a HE football development partnership with Torquay United Football Club to provide opportunities for players to access BUCs football every Wednesday and coaching and analysis work placement opportunities. Student dissertation projects have included using virtual reality to check the effect of sea sicknesses on cognitive performance and using Coach Behavioural analysis software to explore gender based differences in coaching behaviour in kayak coaches
