Our very own Art & Design lecturer, Sam Dowell, has been shortlisted for Dressmaker of the Year 2019. From the pictures of the dress, it’s easy to see why!
Dressmaker of the Year is a British run International competition, by the people behind Sew Magazine, The Great British Sewing Bee, Hobby craft and Stitches and many more. It attracts thousands of entries from all over the world and can be won by any nationality.
Judges this year include, the head of costume for Strictly Come Dancing, head costume designer for BBC’s Doctor Who and other famous dressmakers. More info in the links below.
Sam said “I never in a million years expected to be shortlisted so it’s all quite overwhelming!”
Previous winners have become bloggers, written articles for the magazine and launched careers as dressmaking experts. However, being shortlisted alone is a huge achievement and creates many industry opportunities. Nonetheless, we are still excited to hear the result.

We are so amazed at the talent our staff have here and are able to pass on to our students. Congratulations Sam!
