6th March 2019

South Devon College was delighted to welcome Anne Milton MP, Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills during National Apprenticeship Week.

Anne Milton MP visited the College as part of her Blaze a Trail UK tour visiting a number of organisations to meet apprentices and employers to see first-hand the work of leading further education colleges. She spoke about positive impact apprenticeships can make to industries and the local community.

The visit was part of the Torbay Business Forum apprentice takeover breakfast meeting held at South Devon College.  The monthly meetings bring local businesses together for networking and topical discussions.

A range of apprentices from across the College were responsible for the planning of the event including welcoming guests, cooking and serving the breakfast and running a question and answer panel. The panel was hosted by Karen Squire, Chartered Management Degree Apprentice and Caitlin Moore, Business Administration Apprentice and the panellists included Lucy Langmaid -Training and Quality Manager, Source Contact Management (part of the Pennon group) along with two management apprentices Alison Daniels and Chloe Grieves as well as Ian Smith – Training and Development Manager from Sherwoods who was joined by their Building Maintenance apprentice Jack Gale.

The apprentices and their employers were excited to share their insights and experience of apprenticeships with the Minister, among them were roofing, digital, engineering, hospitality, management and accounting apprentices.

Apprenticeships and Skills Minister, Anne Milton said:

“It was fantastic to meet the apprentices and staff at South Devon College. It was great to hear first-hand how employers of all sizes are embracing apprenticeships and how they have helped their businesses to grow.

“I wish them all the best and look forward to hearing more about their great work”.
