20th December 2018
For many of us the festive time of the year is a great cause for celebration and spending valuable time with family and friends, however sadly homelessness and personal crisis for others happens all year round. That’s why a thoughtful group of South Devon College Digital Media and Creative Computing Level 2 Diploma students recently organised a ‘reverse advent calendar’ for local Torbay homeless charity PATH (People Assisting Torbay’s Homeless).
Unlike a traditional advent calendar, the reverse calendar is all about giving rather than receiving gifts. Throughout the last week the students have been working hard organising staff and fellow students around the College campus to donate any food, toiletries and warm clothes to be given to those who are so desperately in need.
Ready in time for the challenging weather conditions which often arrive during the festive period, the practical and useful collection of gifts were handed over by students on Wednesday 19th December to the team at PATH who were ever so grateful in receipt.
PATH are a local community group that runs the only 7-days-a-week good bank available in the Torbay area. Operating out of Torquay, the charity also runs a homeless outreach programme.
