South Devon College is delighted to hear that Level 3 Computing student Marcus Bailey was recently on the winning team at the HM Government backed Cyber Discovery Elite event in London.
After gaining invitation to the event earlier this year in October, Marcus competed in a team of four other students representing various Colleges. Excelling during the CTF (Capture the Flag), and Wargame heats, their team beat the very best of national Computing talent to secure the title.
After initially enrolling online for the Cyber Discovery Programme, Marcus excelled in the first 3 stages of the challenging 4 stage programme to be rewarded with the special invitation to the ‘Cyber Start Elite’ finals.
The innovative programme saw in excess of 23,000 student entrants nationwide, with just 170 students making it through to the final stage.
The finals provide a platform for students to showcase their abilities, helping to pave the way for future successful careers within the cyber-crime and wider digital sectors.
South Devon College Lecturer in Computer Science and Hi-Tech Nirosha Holton said, “Cyber Discovery is a fantastic initiative to identify and unlock hidden talents of our students and inspire some of our young, bright minds to open up to the possibilities and career choices in Cyber Security. We’re so proud of Marcus and his team’s achievements. Representing the College in London, the level of competition was fierce yet they worked together very well to win the trophy”.
South Devon College continues to show its commitment to emerging subject areas, with construction of the College’s much anticipated Hi Tech & Digital Centre, due to open in September 2019. The leading edge project will provide students with a visionary centre for learning and support, across various ever-growing hi-tech manufacturing, digital and creative sectors.
