There’s been a great sense of excitement and a real buzz in the air at the College this morning as students of all ages collected their GCSE results. For many of our students, collecting their results represents a major personal success; the qualifications achieved today will support their progress to the next chapter of their individual journey.
South Devon College offers a varied range of GCSE subjects for a wide range of students. For many it’s an opportunity to improve on their previous school achievements in Mathematics and English in order to gain these important qualifications that will support their progression and future employment. Each year GCSEs continue to bring new opportunities for adults who have returned to education with aspirations to progress into a higher education or onto an access to higher education course.
Alice Hill (21, from Newton Abbot) gained brilliant GCSE results with a grade 7 in English, 5 in Double Biology and a grade B in Sociology. Alice’s grades will allow her to continue her studies by starting a degree in Social Work. Alice said, “I chose to study my GCSEs at South Devon College to increase my knowledge. I found the tutors to be very supporting and it was easy to find the resources I needed”.
Michelle Collins (38, from Torquay) achieved great GCSE results with a grade 6 in English and grade 5 in Biology. Michelle now plans to study a degree in Nursing, and when asked about her experiences of studying at South Devon College, Michelle said, “Right from the start the tutors were friendly and helpful, and the social life at the College is great”.
Matthew Thompson (21, from Paignton) gained great GCSE results including a grade 6 in English Language. Matthew now plans to start an exciting apprenticeship and when asked about his time at South Devon College, Matthew added, “As an adult learner I really liked the atmosphere here, it felt like a mature learning environment rather than a school”.
Jessica Marr (19, from Torquay) achieved her goal of gaining a grade 6 in GCSE English. Jessica now plans to study a Children’s Nursing degree at university and aims to one day start a career in the profession. Jessica said, “I chose to study my GCSEs at South Devon College as I’ve always wanted to continue my progression onto university and I knew the College offered a wide range of subjects such as Children’s Nursing”.
Matthew Harbour, Vice Principal of Curriculum, Performance and Quality at South Devon College said, “It is excellent to see another really successful year of GCSE achievement at South Devon College. We are delighted that by gaining their GCSEs, our students will be able to progress on to the next stage of their journey in education with us. Well done to the many students who have improved their grades in English and maths and for those students who are moving into employment and higher education, we wish them a bright future. Well done to all students and staff who have worked hard for these great results.”
If you received your results and didn’t quite get the grades you were hoping for or would like to discuss your next steps, the College’s Helpzone service is available to discuss your options, with award-winning, free, impartial advice and guidance for the public.
