Learning Opportunities students completed the Aspire Internship at Torbay Hospital to boost their employability.
Lewis worked in Waste management, collecting all waste, recyclables, laundry, sharps, hazardous waste from wards and departments then taking it back to the dept to be sorted correctly. He now has a traineeship in the department. |
Students enrolled on the internship gain a City & Guilds qualification in employability taught by tutors at South Devon College. The internship is also made up of three 10-week rotations in different departments across the hospital.

Students are supported by specialist staff, and enjoy excellent success rates – last year 80% of students progressed into paid employment.
Josh was working with the gardening team. They are responsible for all the grounds around Torbay Hospital, Josh helped with leaf blowing, general tidying and painting fences, benches. Josh now has a traineeship in Warehousing for the Trust. |
Student Josh Barker said, “The Aspire project has given me so much more confidence in the workplace and within a team. As a result, I have managed to get a traineeship with the NHS as a stock controller in a warehouse. It is the next step to paid employment and I am so pleased!”
