2nd July 2018

Level 3 Health and Social Care student Charlotte Heal achieved 1st place in a regional heat of the Worldskills Health and Social Care competition. The heat took place at South and City College Birmingham.

In a few weeks we will know whether her score is high enough to be selected to become one of the eight finalists for health and social care at the Worldskills UK Finals in November at the NEC in Birmingham.

This WorldSkills UK competition showcases the values, behaviours and attitudes required to work in health and social care and what it means to provide quality care.

Competitors are expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control through a variety of practical exercises.

Charlotte had to complete a knowledge test and compete in three different scenarios which included:

  • Supporting an elderly client who had experienced a stroke with rehabilitation activities
  • Supporting a person with learning disabilities who had recently been diagnosed with diabetes and required support with understanding the different problems associated with diabetes
  • Working in a clinic setting where the person attends the clinic for a check-up, and all the vital signs measurements have to be taken and recorded.

 Congratulations, Charlotte!
