A group of learning opportunities students invited Stephen Criddle OBE to the official opening.
The project is a retail and business focused enterprise led by the students named ‘Barrow 4 U’.
The students conducted thorough research during the development process. Care was taken to avoid any internal competition with additional advice and guidance from Matt Green, Catering and Retail Services Manager at South Devon College.
The product research has proved highly successful as the students have experienced high volume of sales so far. Top sellers include unicorn headbands, jewellery, candles and fidget worms.
Principal Stephen Criddle OBE officially cut the ribbon to open the business, and praised the students for their hard work and dedication.
The students take turns to the run the Barrow learning a variety of transferable employability skills including, customer service, maths, communication and project management. Turnover was £150 after the first week, with a maximum item cost of about £3.50 and a minimum cost of 25p.
