The role of Education Ambassadors is to work with Fujitsu and their partners to encourage collaboration across education establishments and promote a shared best practice vision for driving transformational change through technology in teaching and learning. Ash Merchant, Education Director for Fujitsu UK and Ireland and Katie Rogerson, Business Development – Education at Fujitsu visited South Devon College to support with the College’s digital strategy.
The College’s Fujitsu Digital Innovation Hub is the ideal environment for members of the community to develop their digital skills. The hub is equipped with a range of the latest computing technology, and is used to promote the use of technology and development of digital skills. As an Education Ambassador, the College aims to support greater collaboration between industry, education and community, aiding career skills development and providing expertise on personalised technology in teaching and learning.
Since the launch of the Innovation Hub, a group of South Devon College students won Fujitsu’s Operation Innovation competition. Entrants from across the country were asked to develop a concept around the internet of things (IoT) and come up with a way to solve real-world problem using IoT technology with the problem occuring within one of three sectors: education, utilities and or manufacturing. One of the main objectives of the Ambassador Programme is helping to make technology in the learning environment accessible to all.Work has started on the construction of the much anticipated Hi-Tech and Digital Centre at South Devon College, on Long Road, Paignton. The £17m leading edge project will provide a visionary centre for education and training to support the growing hi-tech manufacturing, digital and creative sectors in Torbay and surrounding area. Due to open in September 2019 the Centre will provide a new location for the already thriving departments at the College.
Fujitsu Education Ambassador Steve Caunter, Assistant Principal at South Devon College, said: “South Devon College is committed to preparing young people and the wider community for the next technological revolution and the digital economy. Both the Fujitsu Digital Innovation Hub and the Hi-Tech and Digital Centre will provide numerous opportunities for all to develop their skills and prepare them for employment. The facilities, complete with cutting edge equipment, will become a centre of excellence delivering projects with the aim of demonstrating power of technology, helping all age groups to adapt to a digital age.”
