On 9th October 2017 the Wellbeing and Support team at University Centre South Devon (UCSD) launched Support and Wellbeing Workshops for students in collaboration with The Lions Barber Collective.
The Lions Barber Collective is an international collection of barbers who have come together to help raise awareness for the prevention of suicide.
Students from across South Devon College and UCSD assembled to support the event. There was musical performances by the Level 3 Music and Performance students keeping everyone entertained throughout and Hair and Makeup students were on hand to braid hair and apply festival glitter makeup.
Lions Barber stylist and representative Chris Coffin attended the event, delivering a presentation on the origins of the Lions Barber Collective and offered free styling and cutting to students.
The workshops are an extension to the work carried out previously by former Higher Education rep Kelsey Flynn, who spoke about how the collaboration won her a national NUS award earlier in the year.
UCSD Support and Wellbeing team and the Lions Barber Collective will run workshops and events once a month in the University Centre. These will include; Active Wellbeing, Mindfulness, Yoga, Laughing Yoga, Stress Management, Movie Night, Curry and Quiz plus more.
