Computer Science Lecturer, Nirosha Holton recently spoke at the Collaborative European Research Conference (CERC) 2017 held in Karlsruhe, Germany.
CERC is a peer-reviewed conference initiated by a long-standing research collaboration between Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), Ireland and the Hochschule Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
Researchers from various universities representing 12 countries including Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Philippines and UK attended the event.
Nirosha presented her study on ‘Supporting 21st Century Learning Through Digitally Enabled Collaborative Learning Spaces’, exploring if embedding digital devices enhance learning within classrooms or are purely a distraction. Her findings were based upon an investigation conducted in parallel with delivering material at the College, and revealed that learning can be enhanced further by embedding various digital technologies in classrooms.
The event was a great opportunity to build international relationships, because of the conference, a Professor at Karlsruhe University is planning a visit to South Devon College in the near future to deliver a guest lecture, which will further enhance the learning experience at South Devon College.
