The South Devon College Performing Arts team are celebrating their students successes this year. Two BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts students have gained places at prestigious conservatoire training schools in London.
The competition to get into these schools is very fierce, each one receives thousands of applicants and only offer around 30 places each year. Mylo Sermon from Totnes gained a place to study the BA (Hons) Acting course at one of the oldest theatre schools in the country, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. Rhianna Jones from Loddiswell was offered places at four different stage schools and has chosen to train at London Studio Centre, studying the BA (Hons) Theatre Dance course. Whilst these are significant achievements, it is also noted that all other completing students this year gained places at their first choice universities to study Musical Theatre or Performance courses or have moved straight into the industry.
Staff at the College are incredibly proud of the students’ achievements. It’s been a very successful year of performances, ranging from the Classical Greek play ‘Antigone’, to the site-specific ‘Memoirs of a Cinema’ at Paignton Picture House attended by Prince Edward, to the energised finale of the year ‘Grease the Musical’, which played to packed audiences each night.
